How We’re Getting Good Energy ⚡in the Big Apple
Happy New Year
[We’re Making 2020 the Year of Energy Efficiency]
I'm dispatching this January newsletter from New York, where I’m checking in on Veteran LED’s new offices at 25 Broadway.

Yes, we’re still based in Virginia. But recently, we opened our QuipTech arm in Lower Manhattan. Our team has been working to develop new partnerships here, and is thrilled about helping people achieve greater energy efficiency — and financial savings.

We’re also looking forward to using our new Service Disabled Veteran Owned Business Certification from New York to help with our expansions plans. Just today, the state’s Public Service Commission issued an order toward implementing “New Efficiency: New York.

As always, thank you for the continued support.

Episode 6: Energy Generation

In our new episode of the Energy Sense podcast, we sit down with Jeff Dowdell, a veteran, former Dominion Energy executive and senior energy consultant at Avalon Energy Services.

We had the opportunity to discuss the efficiencies and cost savings of combined heat and power (CPH), resiliency and the role that natural gas plays in supplementing wind and solar resources. We also asked him to share advice on choosing an energy consultant.

You can find the Energy Sense podcast on most podcasting platforms — Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and TuneIn.

What I Learned From Flight

Some of you may not be aware I worked in aviation for almost 10 years.

I certified aircraft parts for flight. I fabricated, overhauled, inspected, and tested components and systems on multimillion-dollar aircraft supporting our warfighters.

Recently I started thinking of how that carries over into how my team and I approach our work with Veteran LED:
  1. Attention to Detail
  2. Unwavering Quality Assurance Standards
  3. R&D Experience
  4. Safety First
  5. Ability to Interpret Instructions and Engineering Directives.
No matter your experience now or in the past, you can always pivot and apply to other areas. I’ll always have a love for aviation, but even more so a love for the skills and abilities my co-workers and others taught me along the way.

3 Power Moves

  1. ON THE ROAD: Virginia is replacing more than 9,600 highway lights with LED products, the governor announced: “The lighting upgrade will reduce highway lights’ energy consumption by more than 50 percent and triple the expected lifetime from five years to 15 or more years.”

  2. BETTER BUILDINGS: D.C. is working to implement solutions to the challenges of making buildings more energy efficient — goals it has set for new construction and some existing buildings.

  3. WHAT ABOUT SOLAR? It’s that time of the year where we look back and ahead. California solar veteran Barry Cinnamon offers “10 Rooftop Solar and Storage Predictions for the Next Decade.”
